In an era where people are more digitally connected yet physically isolated than ever, a new short film is preparing to hold up a mirror to modern society. Actors Taher Shabbir and Sheena Chohan are set to headline Walls, an upcoming emotional drama directed by Fraser Scott.
The film promises an intimate exploration of urban loneliness, human connection, and the invisible, emotional barriers people build around themselves to survive.
The Plot: Breaking the Silence
Walls follows the story of Monisha, an isolated and introverted sound engineer. Her heavily guarded, quiet life is disrupted when her outgoing neighbor, Ekansh, begins moving out with a lot of noise, directly threatening her impending work deadline.
Her frustrated attempts to silence him lead to their very first real conversation—despite having lived next door to each other for years. This sudden, unexpected encounter slowly forces Monisha to “lower her walls,” sparking a connection that promises to alter her perspective on life and isolation.
What the Cast Has to Say
Both lead actors found deep personal resonance with the script and their respective characters. Taher Shabbir, who steps into a much more lighthearted role as Ekansh, expressed his excitement about the project’s collaborative spirit.
“After a long time, I played a character who is fun-loving, closer to what I’m like in real life,” said Shabbir. “Sheena was a great co-star to work with, as I’ve always felt she’s a good actor. I also believe that a film is about the people you work with… Because of the people Fraser and Sheena are, is why I said yes to the project.”
Sheena Chohan, who plays the guarded Monisha, highlighted the vulnerability hidden beneath her character’s silent exterior.
“Monisha is someone who has built walls around herself after experiencing loss. I loved exploring the journey of a woman who has become disconnected from the world around her, and what happens when someone unexpectedly reaches through that distance,” Chohan explained. “Working with Taher was a wonderful experience—he brought such warmth, spontaneity, and playfulness to Ekansh.”
She noted that director Fraser Scott’s sensitive vision perfectly captured the universal truth of the story: how easy it is to feel completely alone, even when people are physically right next door.
A Director’s Vision Born from the City
For writer and director Fraser Scott, the inspiration for Walls came directly from his surroundings. Observing the changing architecture of Mumbai’s Versova neighborhood served as the thematic foundation for the film.
“I wrote Walls as the old walls of Versova give way to taller ones, inspiring me to explore what these crumbling structures represent as barriers between people and the loneliness of modern life,” shared Scott.
Production and Release Plans
Walls is a collaborative effort, co-produced by Vedic Productions and RAT Films. The technical crew brings heavy-hitting talent to the table, featuring Pranjal Picha as the Director of Photography, Sam Das as Creative Producer, and music composed by Prashant Ingole. Adding another layer of intrigue to the project, veteran actress Suchitra Pillai lends her voice to the film’s antagonist.
The producers are highly optimistic about the film’s universal appeal, stating, “We have a great cast… who will ignite the screen in this drama with layers of depth. Walls is a story rooted in real human experiences and reflects something deeply relevant to the world we live in today.”
Walls is currently in post-production. It is gearing up for a national release and a comprehensive run on the international film festival circuit before its eventual premiere on OTT platforms.
